My World Isn't All That Mad

If you haven't picked up a copy of Glenn Beck's "An Inconvenient Book" - do it. An easy read. A humorous read. I read over half of it on a plane to and from Michigan. I found myself laughing out loud many, many times. I couldn't help it. He'd be in the middle of a serious observation - a teachable moment - and throw in an A.D.D. moment or a graph that was so absurd, you couldn't help but "Hah!"....and then look around to see if other passengers were pushing the call button to beckon the flight attendant for assistance. Luckily, most people were absorbed with iPods, or movies, or charts, graphs, and A.D.D. moments of their own. Then again, it's always nice when someone chooses to connect with you on that level. If only....

Has anyone else found it difficult to balance this civic awareness and activism with daily life? It's a new element introduced into the routine......Shower, breakfast, the House voted, taxi kids to school (or daycare...or summer school), work, check the news, omg we need bread and milk, Mom's not feeling well, what's for dinner, check email (everything calls for action - NOW), better mow the lawn, oh yeah I'm taking on a new responsibility at work - something's gotta give, one of the plates you're spinning has to fall. It's a matter of priority...which plate crashes?

Since I became actively involved - as opposed to inactively FRUSTRATED -there is no end to the responsibility I feel to provide information to others that are JUST as entrenched in their daily routine as I am. Why I feel that responsibility is beyond me. All I know is not everyone can spend 2 or 3 hours a night looking at the facts behind the headlines - so someone has to. We're a soundbite kind of society - give it to me now in the simplest terms possible....a short sentence I'll find easy to recall and relay to friends, family, and co-workers.

But I wouldn't have it any other way...this urgency I feel. I feel direction for the first time in my life. And I welcome the challenge and the OPPORTUNITY. Even if everyone remains sleeping, I own the process of gathering the information and producing something from my God-given gifts. "Talent on loan from God" as Rush would say. Not bragging, just feeling so incredibly blessed and at peace to finally realize what I've created can move others and prompt them to understand we are REPRESENTED by those in Washington - they are there to speak FOR US and to work FOR US, not vice versa. If that's all I ever do in life, I am satisfied.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad.........

Every single day it seems the puppetmasters in D.C. manage to OFFEND me with their attempts to infiltrate our private lives; dictating our financial decisions, moral beliefs, and consumption habits. It's equally offensive and astounding to see the oblivious state people live in. I'm deeply concerned that the gravity and unconstitutionality of D.C.'s actions escapes them.

Is it not offensive that they seek to reverse individual state's abortion laws? Laws that YOU and I have passed by exercising our right to vote and make our voices heard?

Is it not frightening that they seek to model a national healthcare system after Great Britain's and Canada's? Do you know what lies ahead if they succeed? These headlines from the U.K. and Canada are examples of what happens when government involves itself in something it is ignorant about -

- Dental patients face care lottery
- NHS is "failing patients" despite record funding
- One in eight patients waiting over a year for treatment, admits minister
- Smokers and the obese banned from UK hospitals
- Smokers 'should not get NHS care'
- Cancer patients told life-prolonging treatment is too expensive for NHS
- NHS drugs regulator to withdraw approval of Alzheimer's treatment
- http://www.liberty-page.com/issues/healthcare/socialized.html#britain -
dozens and dozens of headlines like this at this link

Is it not misleading that they seek to cover healthcare costs for "45 million uninsured Americans", when a breakdown of this number tells a different story? According to the U.S. Census Bureau -

- 17 million uninsured have a household income over $50,000
- 14 million are eligible for S-CHIP but choose not to enroll
- 12 million illegal immigrants receive healthcare for free
- 18 million between the ages 18-34 ('invincibles'). They spend more than four times as much on alcohol, tobacco, entertainment and dining out as they do for healthcare

Is it not dictatorial that they seek to force volunteerism on today's youth, while at the same time, reducing federal tax deductions for charitable contributions? Inevitably, the "Serve America Act" (HR 1388 - S277) aims to steer the public to monetarily support "approved" charities rather than the school, church, shelter, and non-profit organization of your choice. In addition, our children will be FORCED to participate in charitable activities as part of their public education. http://www.redstate.com/hogan/2009/03/25/promoting-statism-in-the-name-of-service/

I am outraged every day. My choices, privacy, children, health, income, future, freedom - they're all being compromised by a few in Washington that insist on having control "for the greater good".

TYRANNY - arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.

Think about THAT......

Welcome To My World

My inaugural blog! I may tweak things here and there along the way. My blog name, my layout, images, etc. This is new to me...definitely in the experimental phase, as is/was my newsletter.

A little about my newsletter - it came to me so naturally, I didn't struggle at all. It didn't seem like a chore, which tells me something very important - that it is the right path for me. And the feedback and support I've received has been MOST encouraging. I thank you all.

The material presented itself. Some of it current events, some of it history, most of it what should be common knowledge. Everybody should know this stuff!! As it evolves, my major objective will be to present links that will serve to educate and provoke thought and reflection. Maybe conventional wisdom has always told you what to believe about something, then you're presented with evidence that makes you say, "Hey, wait a minute....I thought.....but that's not true!" THAT is what I'm talking about!

My hope is that I make you look at something in a way you haven't in the past. You may think you're a staunch supporter of a cause, then be exposed to something that touches you personally. That's how change happens. In my case, there were issues I thought I was being open to both sides of, but what was really happening was that I hadn't applied my own, personal belief system. Looking back, I think I was lacking courage and being lazy. But I told myself I was being open-minded and tolerant.

We all have family values. We all have morals. We all have common sense. We all have ambition. We all have a desire for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Let's not forget that they are our rights according to the Constitution!

LIBERTY - freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control.

Think about that......
