My World Isn't All That Mad

If you haven't picked up a copy of Glenn Beck's "An Inconvenient Book" - do it. An easy read. A humorous read. I read over half of it on a plane to and from Michigan. I found myself laughing out loud many, many times. I couldn't help it. He'd be in the middle of a serious observation - a teachable moment - and throw in an A.D.D. moment or a graph that was so absurd, you couldn't help but "Hah!"....and then look around to see if other passengers were pushing the call button to beckon the flight attendant for assistance. Luckily, most people were absorbed with iPods, or movies, or charts, graphs, and A.D.D. moments of their own. Then again, it's always nice when someone chooses to connect with you on that level. If only....

Has anyone else found it difficult to balance this civic awareness and activism with daily life? It's a new element introduced into the routine......Shower, breakfast, the House voted, taxi kids to school (or daycare...or summer school), work, check the news, omg we need bread and milk, Mom's not feeling well, what's for dinner, check email (everything calls for action - NOW), better mow the lawn, oh yeah I'm taking on a new responsibility at work - something's gotta give, one of the plates you're spinning has to fall. It's a matter of priority...which plate crashes?

Since I became actively involved - as opposed to inactively FRUSTRATED -there is no end to the responsibility I feel to provide information to others that are JUST as entrenched in their daily routine as I am. Why I feel that responsibility is beyond me. All I know is not everyone can spend 2 or 3 hours a night looking at the facts behind the headlines - so someone has to. We're a soundbite kind of society - give it to me now in the simplest terms possible....a short sentence I'll find easy to recall and relay to friends, family, and co-workers.

But I wouldn't have it any other way...this urgency I feel. I feel direction for the first time in my life. And I welcome the challenge and the OPPORTUNITY. Even if everyone remains sleeping, I own the process of gathering the information and producing something from my God-given gifts. "Talent on loan from God" as Rush would say. Not bragging, just feeling so incredibly blessed and at peace to finally realize what I've created can move others and prompt them to understand we are REPRESENTED by those in Washington - they are there to speak FOR US and to work FOR US, not vice versa. If that's all I ever do in life, I am satisfied.
